Poetry Sessions: Finish Line

You provoked me to speak, but when I spoke, you misunderstood me

You provoked me to think, but when I thought you judged me

You provoked me to sing, but when I sang, you laughed at me

You provoked me to push harder, but tripped me until I stumbled

Your arrogance wouldn’t allow me to be greater

You spent so much time misconstruing my being,

But like the tortoise and the hare,

I still beat you to the finish line.
